At the base of my room, a Splendid Fairyren has come to play.
He flicks and flutters:
The brightest blue amongst the red dirt.
The sun is bringing some warmth and I’m wearing a t-shirt for first time this winter:
A signifier of change to come.
Sitting at the cusp of this change is little Fairyren – bluer than the ocean, soft and feathered, darting from branch to bird bath and back again.
In pulling myself out of a rut of my own creation, I pay homage to this little creature.
You’re a balm for the soul, little Fairyren.
Never change,
Please,
Never change.
There was some lingering darkness in the winter:
Spaces that irked,
Darker contortions of the mind.
But the storm has passed,
the earth replenished,
and I’ve taking the Splendid Fairyren
as a sign
for good things to come.
