As Venus aligned with the Waning Cresent – a bright dot on top of a sleek slither of a moon – there were rumblings of a different kind on the Ilparpa property.
Something was building, after 6 days spent out bush – a soul thought by some lost emerged – in the morning dawn – brave and hungry – Daisy the emu has returned.
It was 6 long days of waiting, to see if survival instincts had kicked in, if a once domesticated emu could walk the intrepid paths of her ancestors with ease, if Daisy could survive in the wild.
With her Daisy brings new light, new warmth, new energy – a subtle bloom akin to a spring -time flower.
Obstacles overcome, Daisy is home, Daisy is welcomed – with water, with fresh apple, with offerings of dried oats.
A prodigal return, you might think –
but really this is a reawakening – a movement towards the equilibrium of calm, a rejection of chaos.
Venus shines above this – both the morning star and the evening star, shining a light on the new energy pushing forth, a piercing dot of wisdom, ever-bright in the night sky.
Daisy drinks water down long feathered throat and with it, new life emerges on the property.
And I think about the times in my life when new energy was required: travel, a new phase, a new challenge, a lingering trauma rearing its head – and how I faced them – at times secure, at times stumbling.
And I think about how moments are reference points – how we build meaning, how we implant meaning, how we change with a seasonal ebb and flow.
And now, I can think of a new dawn, a new awakening, a journey home and take inspiration from Daisy’s return.
